August 1-10, 2009 - An Event not to be missed in Medellin, Colombia La Feria de las Flores (Medellin Flower Fesitval). The entire City of Medellin bursts into flames of color and sweet smell of flowers during the Flower Festival.
This is one of Medellin’s most important and popular cultural event. Colombia is famous for its beautiful flowers and exports them all over the world. This celebration has been going on for over 50 years and is held during the first two weeks of August.
One of the highlights of the fair is the Desfile de Silleteros. You will see processions of campesinos (men & women) moving slowly through town with large wooden constructions on their backs, each decorated elaborately with flowers of every color and fragrance.
The crowds get large so be prepared for serious crowding and get there early to get a good area to watch. The biggest parade takes place on August 10, which is a local holiday. This is one you don't want to miss!
